Stye

Definition:

Stye is a small boil that is caused by any bacterial infection. Usually, it erupts on the margins of the lower eyelid.

Causes:

  • Increased exposure to the infection, caused either due to other major eye diseases or due to organic diseases.
  • Excessive dryness of the eyes.
  • Injury or external trauma.

Symptoms:

  • Formation of a small boil on the margin of the eyelid.
  • Pain and irritation, that is associated with headache, in some cases.
  • Increased lacrimation, and photophobia.

Suggestions:

  • Local application of sandalwood paste on the affected eyelid.
  • Eye drops prepared from medicated pure ghee made from Vetiver grass and licorice should be put in the affected eye.
  • Regular eyewash with a cold infusion of three myrobalans (Triphala).
  • Three powdered myrobalans (Triphala), in a 1-gm dosage, daily, with a pinch of honey and pure ghee.
